  • NHCA has joined the United Kingdom Hearing Conservation Association (UKHCA) as a "company" member. NHCA President Theresa Schulz was invited to a meeting of the UKHCA “At Work” Special Interest Group. More international collaboration to come…
  • With input from members and review from the Recreational Firearms Task Force, NHCA updated its prior letter of support for the Hearing Protection Act and it was provided to Congress.  The updated letter will soon be posted on the NHCA Web site under > Resources  >NHCA Position Statements.
  • An international hearing protector fit-testing symposium is in the works, and will likely occur around Fall 2022. Ideas on topics, speakers and logistics are welcome…please email Laurie Wells at [email protected]. Stay tuned for more details!

  • NIOSH researchers react to public media coverage of Brood X cicadas as an opportunity to clear up common misunderstandings of noise exposures and risk of noise-induced hearing loss. A must read for all: “Noise Myths Debunked – Fact and Fiction Behind all the Cicada Buzz.” NIOSH Science Blog posted July 20, 2021 by NIOSH Noise and Bio-Acoustics Team.

  • Check out these new estimates of hearing loss prevalence by global region, severity, age and some causes, brought to you by the authors of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study. The GBD Study is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Health Organization. Population-representative surveys on hearing loss prevalence from 1990 to 2019 were analyzed, indicating 1 in 5 (over 1.5 billion) people globally have some form of hearing loss.

  • Healthy People is a 10-year public health initiative coordinated by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. Healthy People 2030, the initiative’s fifth release, includes priorities for increasing the use of hearing protection around loud noise and reducing hearing loss in the general population. Call for Nominations - 2022 Safe-in-Sound Excellence in Hearing Loss Prevention Awards™

Has your company or organization developed an innovative approach toward occupational hearing loss prevention? If so, you may be a great candidate for the 2022 Safe-in-Sound Excellence in Hearing Loss Prevention Award™. The awards are presented by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC), and NHCA to recognize excellence in hearing loss prevention and to disseminate leading edge information from successful programs. 
Self-nominations are now being accepted through July 15, 2021. Additional information is available at www.safeinsound.us.
