Special Issue "The Negative Effects on Health Due to Noise Exposure"

A special issue of International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (ISSN 1660-4601).

Deadline for manuscript submissions: 1 September 2020

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Environmental noise (sometimes referred to as noise pollution) is defined as unwanted outdoor sound generated by humans. Concern is growing regarding the public health implications of environmental noise (particularly nighttime noise), as there is an expanding body of evidence documenting its adverse effects on cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, sleep disturbance, hearing loss, tinnitus, and annoyance. Children, the chronically ill, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of noise.

This Special Issue has a focus on the adverse effects of noise on human health, distribution of exposure, exposure–response relationships, prevalence estimates, additional health outcomes, burdens to potentially vulnerable subgroups (e.g., the elderly and lower socioeconomic groups), effects when combined with air pollution and chemical exposure, and the effectiveness of interventions in reducing noise exposure and negative health impacts. Papers addressing issues relevant to the negative health effects of noise exposure are invited, and especially those addressing strategies to protect communities from noise exposure and reducing the noise-related burden of disease.
