Calculators

These Excel files are offered, without warranty, for the convenience of professionals who thoroughly understand the underlying scientific, biomedical, and technical issues.

  • The BHI Calculator gives the Binaural Hearing Impairment, according to the method of the American Medical Association (AMA), when an individual's audiometric thresholds are entered.

  • The ARHL (age-related hearing loss) Calculator gives expected median and 95th percentile values for the average of the AMA speech frequencies (0.5, 1, 2, and 3 kHz), when an individual's age and sex are entered.

  • The NIPTS Calculator gives expected median and 95th percentile values for noise-induced permanent threshold shift, for frequencies between 0.5 and 6 kHz, as well as the AMA speech frequency average, when an individual's noise exposure level and duration are entered.
  • The STS Expected Contributions Calculator gives the median expected ARHL and NIPTS during an interval over which an OSHA STS (standard threshold shift) has been observed. Inputs are gender, age at the beginning and end of the interval, and noise exposure level and duration prior to and during the interval.
